Depending on numerous factors such as material concept, water chemistry or operational practices, a certain amount of metal oxides and impurities are generated or transported into the circuits of nuclear power plants (NPPs). In order to reduce dose rate build-up and to maintain the component integrity, certain measures (e.g. decontamination, chemical or mechanical cleaning) might become necessary to avoid undesired conditions. Out of specification conditions (e.g. impurity ingress caused by condenser leakage, spent fuel pool leakage due to corrosion) require, beside the elimination of the actual root cause, assessment of the situation regarding possible long-term issues and mitigation consulting.
