Local Power Range Detector Type MBK 61 for Boiling Water Reactors
MBK 61 detectors are used to measure the neutron flux density in the range between about 1,012 and 4 x 1,014 s-1 cm-2 during power operation. The detector consists of two concentric electrodes. The space between the electrodes is filled with high-purity Argon. The outside surface of the inner electrode is coated with uranium. Fission products generated by neutron induced fissions in the uranium layer ionize the gas between the electrodes.
AREVA has produced more than 5,000 detectors, which have been successfully installed in nuclear power plants (NPPs) all around the world, for example in Germany, Swizerland, Sweden, Finland, USA and India.
