MBK 61 detectors are used to measure the neutron flux density in the range between about 1,012 and 4 x 1,014 s-1 cm-2 during power operation. The detector consists of two concentric electrodes. The space between the electrodes is filled with high-purity Argon. The outside surface of the inner electrode is coated with uranium. Fission products generated by neutron induced fissions in the uranium layer ionize the gas between the electrodes.
